Watch: Umpire hilariously decides to get involved in the game
It is often said that the job of an Umpire is the most unthankful job on the field of cricket. If a decision goes wrong the fans and critics do not let go of it easily, but in the case of a good decision, credit is hardly given to the umpires. Besides, it is also the toughest job on the field as continuous attention is needed for them and they have to stay highly focused on the game. The focus of the umpires has to be impeccable as a vital decision at any stage of the game could determine the entire fate of the match.
It is often seen that Umpires take too long to give a decision while some other umpires are very prompt in giving the decisions. Nowadays the Decision Review System has been introduced into the game of cricket to help the job of the umpires. But it still depends on the umpires to ensure that a game of cricket runs smoothly and the right decisions are taken on time.
The umpires are often subject to the bowlers and fielders appealing exuberantly. While some of the appeals are hilarious others are annoying even for the viewers. However, a rare and hilarious incident occurred recently in a club match in England. The umpire involved in the incident forgot his role and joined in the appeal with the bowling team. The ball rapped on the pads of the batter and it was quite evident that the striker is plumb in front of the wicket therefore the umpire excitedly got involved in the action and himself joined in the appeal.

The incident occurred during the match between Odiham and Greywell Cricket Club was playing against Overton Cricket Club. During the incident, Overton was batting and was five wickets down for just 12 runs. The bowler at this stage was Sophie Cook who bowled a delivery outside the off-stump which the batter tried to leave. But the ball brushed the batter’s pad and went through to the wicket-keeper. As the bowler and the fielders went up in appeal, the umpire also joined them. However, he quickly realized his mistake and changed his action giving the batter out.
