Watch: Umran Malik bowls fastest delivery by Indian bowler in first T20I against Sri Lanka
India tearaway pacer Umran Malik is known for bowling with a disturbingly high pace. He made his name during the Indian T20 League seasons, 2021 and 2022 with sheer pace. Meanwhile, in the first T20I against Sri Lanka, Malik made the record for the fastest delivery by an Indian across formats. He bowled at 155 kmph delivery to the Lankan Lions skipper, Dasun Shanaka.
The incident happened in the 17th over of Sri Lanka’s innings. Umran bowled a fullish-length delivery outside the off-stump. In reply, Shanaka played a lofted cover drive and timed the ball well. However, the right-hander failed to place the ball in the right area as he was caught at covers by Yuzvendra Chahal. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir player broke the record of Jasprit Bumrah. The latter’s highest speed is 153.36 kph.
Apart from Bumrah, Mohammed Shami (153.3 kph), and Navdeep Saini (152.85 kph) have also bowled at more than 150 kmph.

Talking about the game, the Men In Blue have started the three-match T20I series with a win. Batting first, they amassed 162/5, thanks to Deepak Hooda (41*) and Axar Patel (31*). They stitched an unbeaten partnership of 68 runs for the sixth wicket. The team was in trouble as they had lost five wickets for 94 runs. In reply, the Lankan Lions came close but lost the game by two runs as they were bowled out.
“Really disappointed with the way we finished, it was a game we should have won. At Wankhede, the batters need to cross the line easily when you are chasing 163. We used the match-ups well to restrict India. This bunch of youngsters is a very good bunch of players, they will come back strongly,” Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka skipper, said.
