Umran Malik‘s dreams came true today as he was handed his ODI cap ahead of the ongoing first ODI against New Zealand. He was handed his cap by none other than VVS Laxman who is the acting head coach of the team for the series. In the ongoing game, the Jammu and Kashmir pacer picked his maiden wicket in the 16th over of the Blackcaps’ innings.

Chasing, 307, the home team had scored 68/1 in 15 overs. Malik had bowled two overs by then and given away only nine runs. The right-arm pacer came back to bowl his third and picked his maiden immediately with a full-length delivery. The 23-year-old pitched the ball outside off-stump and Devon Conway tried to drive the ball. However, the latter could only manage to edge the ball to Rishabh Pant.

The Hyderbad player in the Indian T20 League took his second wicket in the form of Daryl Mitchell. At the time, the score read 88/3. However, since then, the Indian bowlers haven’t been able to pick wickets and the team is on the verge of losing the game. At the time of writing, skipper Kane Williamson and his deputy, Tom Latham were batting at the crease.

They have put together 181 runs for the third wicket. Lathan scored another ODI hundred while Williamson is looking set to do the same. Notably, the New Zealand skipper was in need of big runs as he has been struggling across formats. However, the ongoing game has turned out to be an opportunity to score his ODI hundred. At the time of writing, the Kiwis have scored 273/3 in 44.2 overs, needing run-a-ball 34. Williamson is currently batting on 86 and would be looking to finish the game.
