Chennai faced the in-form Bangalore team in the 22nd match of the Indian T20 League 2022. After losing their first 4 matches in the tournament, Chennai was desperately looking for a win. On the back of the carnage from Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube Chennai reached a massive total of 216 runs in their 20 overs.
During Bangalore’s chase, the men in red lost a wicket early in Faf du Plessis and were 14 for 1 down in the 3rd over of the innings. Virat Kohli walked to the crease at this stage and Bangalore depended a lot on the ‘Chase Master’ to successfully reach the Everest of runs in front of them.
In the 5th over of the innings, Chennai handed over the bowling duties to the left-arm medium-pacer Mukesh Choudhary. The fans witnessed the strategical acumen of MS Dhoni. He planned a perfect dismissal of Virat Kohli. After the 4th ball of the over MSD moved Shivam Dube from fine leg to deep square leg. In the very next ball, Virat Kohli flicked the ball in the air and was caught by Shivam Dube. VK’s wicket at the stage was a vital one as his presence could have changed the incidents after the match.

Chennai ultimately restricted Bangalore to 193 runs and won the match by a margin of 23 runs. Despite Dinesh Karthik’s late exploits, Bangalore could not pull off a win. With the victory, Chennai ended their 4-match losing streak in the tournament and registered their first points for the season. Hopefully, for the fans, this marks the beginning of a dramatic turnaround for the defending champions.
