WATCH: Viral moment of selflessness by Rohit Sharma towards KL Rahul after winning series 2-1

The captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, delegated the trophy collection duty to KL Rahul after the ODI series against Australia. Rahul had led the team in the first two matches while Rohit was rested, returning for the third match in Rajkot. Although India lost the match, they secured the series 2-1 with victories in Mohali and Indore.

This gracious gesture from Rohit was captured in a viral video on social media. In addition to this, when it came to clicking photos with the trophy, the Indian team handed over the trophy to Dharmendrasinh Jadeja. Jadeja was inducted into the team as a backup fielder for the final ODI as the Indian team only had 12 members in their squad.

In the final ODI, Australia, led by part-time off-spinner Glenn Maxwell, applied pressure on the Indian middle-order, resulting in a 66-run victory for Australia. Despite the loss, India emerged triumphant in the overall series. Initially cruising at 171 for 2 in pursuit of 353, India faltered in the middle order under Maxwell’s crucial breakthroughs, finishing at 286 in 49.4 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma (81) and Kohli set up a solid foundation, but subsequent batsmen struggled, giving Australia the upper hand.

“I’m pretty happy, of course, I would like to go all the way along but if I’m hitting like that, I’m happy. In the last 7-8 ODIs we have played really well, we have been challenged under different conditions and different teams, I thought we responded to that challenge pretty well. Unfortunately, not the result we wanted today,” the Indian skipper said after the match.

India will begin their World Cup campaign on October 8

With the ODI World Cup just around the corner, it is going to be very crucial for the Indian team to focus first on the warm-up matches. The Indian team will be playing England in the first warmup match in Guwahati on September 30. Also, in the second match for warmups, the 2011 World Champions will be facing the Netherlands on October 3 in Thiruvananthapuram.

In addition to this, the World Number one ranked ODI side be kickstarting their World Cup campaign against Australia. Both the cricketing giants will be locking horns against each other on October 8 at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
