WATCH: Virat Kohli’s young fan bursts into tears as he misses century against New Zealand in ODI World Cup 2023
Former Indian cricket team captain and legendary batsman Virat Kohli recently broke a lot of hearts as he missed a very deserved century against New Zealand during the team’s match in the ODI World Cup 2023. India defeated New Zealand in a major Cricket tournament conducted by the apex cricket Council after 20 years considering Virat Kohli’s high score.
India won the toss and chose to bowl first and the New Zealand cricket team collectively put 273 runs on the board and gave India a target of 274 runs to chase. India’s opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill departed early while leaving a huge pile of runs to be scored by the team’s middle-order batsmen supported by Virat Kohli. Like a lot of matches, Virat Kohli ended up scoring till the last few overs and finally led the team towards victory.
As soon as Virat Kohli reached the score of 90 fans started to keep their hopes up and were in a wait for Virat to score yet another century and equalise the unrealistic record of the most number of centuries in ODI cricket with Sachin Tendulkar with his 49th century in the ODI and overall 79th century in international cricket.
However, after reaching the score of 95, Virat Kohli got caught by Glenn Phillips and was dismissed at the score of 95. Even though Virat missed the century, he led the team towards victory as India defeated New Zealand by five wickets. A young fan could not control his tears as he burst out crying since Virat missed his well-deserved century.

In the post-match ceremony Rohit Sharma talked about India’s phenomenal display of sport in the world’s biggest Cricket tournament, the ODI World Cup 2023 and Virat Kohli’s performance in the game, he said, “Good start to the tournament. The job is half done. Important to stay balanced. Not to think too far ahead. Important to stay in the present. Shami took the opportunity with both hands. He has experience in these conditions and is a class bowler. At one stage, we were looking at 300 plus. Credit to our bowlers at the back end. I am enjoying my batting. Both are different personalities but we (Him and Gill) complement each other. Happy that we won. There’s not much to say. He (Kohli) has done this for us so many years. He backed himself to do the job. Kohli and Jadeja pulled us back when we lost a few wickets in the middle.”
“The fielding is something we pride ourselves on. Today the fielding wasn’t clinical. Ravindra Jadeja is one of the best fielders in the world. These things happen. We know that fielding is something that will decide a lot of things going forward. We love travelling and playing in different parts of the game”, he added.
