Manchester United failed to kick off this season of Premier League with a win. They lost to Brighton 2-1 at home. The new era of this cub under their new manager Erik ten Hag did not start as they planned.

Now, a former club great, Wayne Rooney came up with a unique suggestion for the club to become a title-winning contender in the near future. As per him, United needs to sell their Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo for building a better team in the near future.

‘I think United should let Cristiano Ronaldo go,’ – Wayne Rooney

Writing in The Times, Rooney wrote that United should let go of Cristiano Ronaldo. It will help them to build a team that can win the league in the future. He wrote: “I think United should let Cristiano Ronaldo go. It’s not that Ronaldo can’t play in a Ten Hag team. He can play in any team. Ronny will always score your goals. But my personal view is that United aren’t ready to challenge for the title now, so the aim has to be to build a team that can win the league in the next three to four years, and you have to plan for that.”

Former United great also added that if Ronaldo wants to leave the club, his request needs to be considered. “If the reports are true that Cristiano wants to leave the club, then United should allow him to go and get a No 9 in who is going to be there for the next three or four years and really help them build a team that can e successful. Ten Hag has to be given time to do it.”

Meanwhile, there were reports that Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to leave the club for playing in the Champions League. But, no other clubs showed an interest. Hence, he came back to Manchester. He also played in the loss against Brighton at Old Trafford. Manchester United’s next match will be on 13 August 2022 against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
