‘We didn’t lose it’ – When Shoaib Malik Gave A Surprising Reaction To Pakistan’s Loss Against India In The 20-20 World Cup 2007
On 14 September 2007, India played against Pakistan in the 20-20 World Cup. That was the 10th match of that tournament. In that first-ever 20-20 World Cup, India went with a very young side with a young captain, named MS Dhoni. On the other hand, Pakistan had a chance to break its record of losing all matches in any format of the World Cup against the arch-rivals.
But, they failed again as India managed to win the match. However, they won the match by a bowl out as the match ended in a tie. Meanwhile, after the match, Pakistan skipper, Shoaib Malik’s reaction was surprising.
“Any loss against India hurts” – Shoaib Malik
Speaking of the match, India batted first and scored 141 runs by losing nine wickets in 20 overs. But, in reply, Pakistan also managed to score 141 runs by losing seven wickets in 20 overs. Pakistan needed one run off two balls. But, still, they failed to win that match.
After that, bowl out happened to decide the winner of that match. Pakistan lost out in the bowl out 3-0. None of the three Pakistan bowlers managed to hit the stumps. While Sehwag, Harbhajan, and Uthappa hit the target for India. Before that tournament, the rule was there that a bowl out will happen in case of any tied matches for deciding a winner.
However, after that, Shoaib Malik shared a surprising reaction. He said that they did not lose that match on the field. They lost the match on the bowl-out. “When the match ended in a tie, only then we came to know that this (bowl out) would happen. I just told my bowlers not to take the pressure and try and hit the wickets but they were not successful. My team gave 100 percent. And we didn’t lose it on the field, we lost it on a bowl out. Any loss against India hurts, but we will take lessons from this game.” Shoaib Malik concluded. Eventually, both teams met again in the final of that tournament. India won the first-ever 20-20 World Cup by defeating Pakistan by five runs.
