‘We will struggle without him..’ – Afghanistan skipper hopes for Rashid Khan’s return in T20 squad setup

“He is not totally fit” says Captain Ibrahim Zadran.

Afghanistan skipper Ibrahim Zadran confirms their lead spinner Rashid Khan will miss the upcoming T20I series against India. He hasn’t fully recovered since he underwent his back surgery in November 2023. Even though he was included in the Afghanistan squad, his chances of playing were uncertain.

Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran in the pre-match press conference, said, “He is not originally fit. We will miss him in the series. We will struggle without Rashid Khan but one should be ready for any kind of situation.”

It will be interesting to see how the Afghanistan team will do without their main spinner. Nonetheless, they have players like Naveen-Ul Haq and Mujeeb Zadran, who are in their full form and will give their best for their team. This series will give the young players a chance to display their strengths.

Return of Rohi-Rat

This series is in some ways special to the Indian team as their favourite duo, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, will return to the T20 after a gap of 14 months. However, Hardik Pandya and Surya Kumar Yadav will miss the series due to injury. Moreover, there are players like Tilak Verma and Yashasvi Jaiswal who will play in the T20 series against Afghanistan. The Indian side is filled with young players and the comeback of Virat and Rohit will help the team have a balance.

If we talk about keepers, India has two keepers in the squad, Sanju Samnson and Jistesh Sharma. The bowling department will depend upon players like Ravi Bisnoi, Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan. Considering the seriousness of this series, this will certainly pave the way for the youngsters for the upcoming T20I World Cup in June.
