India won the three-match ODI series against West indies on 27 July 2022 at a margin of 3-0. After winning both the T20I and ODI series against England last month, India came to West Indies for the ODI series and a five-match T20I series. Star players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were given rest.
Therefore, Shikhar Dhawan got the opportunity to lead in this series while Ravindra Jadeja was the vice-captain. However, on the eve of the series opener, Jadeja got ruled out due to his knee injury. Hence, Shreyas Iyer got the duties of deputy of Dhawan. All young players like Shubman Gill came up with some excellent performances throughout the series. Gill also won the player of the series award for scoring 205 runs in three matches.
Now, India is going to face West Indies in a five-match T20I series, starting from 29 July to 7 August 2022. Three matches will happen in West Indies while the last matches will happen in the US. Star players like Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar arrived on 26 July. They will join others for this T20I series as it is going to be a good test for them ahead of the T20 World Cup, later this year in Australia.
However, Virat Kohli will again miss this series as he requested rest from the whole Tour. KL Rahul was looking for a comeback. But, he got tested Covid-19 positive earlier this week. Now, medical representatives have requested him one more week’s rest for a full recovery. Rohit Sharma will be back in action as the skipper of the side. On the other side, West Indies announced a 16-member squad for this series.
