‘When you can get 70-80, why are you satisfied with 40’ – Former Indian all-rounder feels Jemimah Rodrigues should bat at no. 3 for Delhi in Women’s T20 League
The Delhi franchise had a pretty good outing in the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League till now. They have registered big wins in the first two games against Bangalore and UP, respectively, by scoring 200+ in both matches.
Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues has also played a crucial role in Delhi’s wins by accelerating the inning by coming to bat at number four. She remained unbeaten in both games as she scored 22 off 15 against Bangalore and 34 off 22 against UP.
However, former Indian cricketer Reema Malhotra feels that Rodrigues should bat at number three for the Delhi franchise, while Marizanne Kapp should bat down the order. She believes that Kapp has the power and she can drive the game and play powerful shots by coming down the order.
“She is giving you good 30-40 runs. But when you can get 70-80, why are you satisfied with 40? Marizanne Kapp has the power, you can move her one number down. She knows how to drive the game and plays powerful shots,” said Reema during the post-match discussion on Sports 18 after the Delhi-UP game.
“Jemimah Rodrigues has remained not out in both matches. She has the form, plays through singles and doubles, takes her time at the start but after that, we saw the improvisation and the range of shots,” she further added.
‘You will get more depth in your batting’ – Malhotra
The former cricketer also mentioned mind games Rodrigues plays with the bowler’s mind while batting. She also added that sending her at number three and Kapp down the order could provide more depth to Delhi’s batting lineup.
“We saw her stepping out and she uses the crease well if you see her batting. She moves outside the off stump at times and outside the leg stump on other occasions, which means she plays with the bowler’s mind,” Malhotra said.
“She has the form as well. Send her at No. 3 and move Marizanne Kapp one number down. You will get more depth in your batting and you can get an even better performance from Jemimah Rodrigues,” she added.
