The ongoing Women’s 20-20 World Cup 2023 has been rocked by the spot-fixing approach to a player. Apparently, a Bangladesh Women’s player has allegedly been approached by a former teammate. The former has reported it to the Apex Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit. According to the Women’s player Lata Mondal, she was approached to influence a specific outcome during the game against Sri Lanka.

During the conversation, Mondal was asked to produce specific results during the Sri Lanka game by former player, Shohely Akhter. The former went on to complain about this to the Bangladesh Cricket Board. In the audio recording, the cricketer in Bangladesh is heard saying “I am not forcing anything. You can play if you want.

“The fact that I told you, you can play this time or not. You choose which match you want to play. You can offer the match. It is your wish. You did well in one match, you can play the next game or not. The team management will let you do that.”

The player said to be in South Africa replied: “No my friend, I am not involved in these things. Please don’t tell me these things. I won’t be able to do these things ever. I request you not to tell me these things, please.”

The case will be dealt with by the Apex Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit: Shafiul Alam Chowdhury

Meanwhile, reacting on the matter, Alam said that as the national side is playing the World Cup, the case will be dealt by the Apex Council.

“Our cricketer from the World Cup squad, who has been approached, has immediately reported it to the Apex Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). Now, the rest will be dealt with by the ACU. We do not have jurisdiction over these matters as it will be looked into by ACU. But, yes, we are aware of it,” BCB director and women’s wing chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel told Bangladesh’s The Daily Star.
