‘Yahan bhi ipl’- Fans react as Gary Kirsten rejects offer to become India Women’s head coach for Indian Premier League
The hunt for the new coach of the India Women’s Cricket Team has begun. Despite being speculated to assume the post, former Indian men’s head coach Gary Kirsten is not interested in it. However, Charlotte Edwards has entered the competition to replace acting head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the Indian Cricket Board was looking to hire Gary Kirsten as the head coach of the Indian Women’s side. That, however, was not possible due to the Proteas coach’s commitments in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and other leagues. While the quest for the coach is constantly the top priority, as the Indian Cricket Board continues to look for a desired name.
Who will become the new Indian Women’s Team coach?
Amol Mazumdar is also thought to be in the running for the job. He is joined by current temporary head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar, who took over as a head coach for Harmanpreet Kaur and her girls when Ramesh Powar resigned in December to join the National Cricket Academy as the spin bowling coach under the legendary VVS Laxman.
Charlotte Edwards, the former English batter, lately entered the contest. It remains to be seen whether the Indian Cricket Board would go forward with England’s World Cup-winning captain. Edwards recently led the Mumbai Indians in the first season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The Indian Cricket Board is expected to provide the new coach with a two-year deal. It should be mentioned that two significant competitions are on the horizon, and the Women in Blue are eager to play well in the biggest major tournaments over the next two years, the T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh and the World Cup in India in 2025.
Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board announced the Women’s Selection Committee and Junior Cricket Committee selections on Monday. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which includes prominent members Ms Sulakshana Naik, Mr Ashok Malhotra, and Mr Jatin Paranjape, oversaw the selection process. The CAC unanimously recommended Shyama Dey Shaw and VS Thilak Naidu for the jobs of selector in the Women’s Selection Committee and Junior Cricket Committee, respectively, after a comprehensive vetting of candidates.
