‘Ye ball hai ya tar ka gola’ – Mohammed Shami shines on Day 1 of Delhi Test as India bowls out Australia for 263
On the first day of the second Test between India and Australia in Delhi, India have been able to bowl Australia out before the end of the day. The visitors were bowled out for 263 runs on the first day, while India are on 21 runs without any loss wicket after the end of day one. The hosts are already leading the four-match series by 1-0.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Australia got a fine a fine as the openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja added 50 runs for the first wicket. Khawaja was the top scorer for his team scoring 81 runs off 125 balls, with 12 fours and a maximum. Shami got the first breakthrough for India by dismissing Warner for 15 runs in the 16th over. After a few overs, Ravichandran Ashwin striked twice in the 23rd by first dismissing Marnus Labuschagne for 18 runs and then getting a big wicket of Steve Smith just after two balls. Ashwin dismissed the number one Test batter for a duck.
After that Peter Handscomb took the charge and remained unbeaten on 72 runs from 142 balls. He added 59 runs with the skipper Pat Cummins (33 off 59) for the seventh wicket. The Aussies got bowled out for 263 runs in 78.4 overs. Shami was the main anchor of the Indian bowling taking 4 wickets conceding 60 runs. Along with Shami, spin duo, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja shared 3-3 wickets each.

Skipper Rohit Sharma is batting on 13 runs from 34 balls with one boundary, while KL Rahul is unbeaten on 4 runs facing 20 balls. India are currently 242 runs behind Australia’s total. Rohit was also given LBW out by the umpire on the third ball of the final of the day bowled by Nathan Lyon. But the decision was overturned after Rohit asked for a review and the ball seem to be missing the leg stumps.
This Test has been special for India’s veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara as he joined the elite list of Indian cricketers who played over 100 Test matches. The 35-year-old also received guard of honor while into the ground by his teammates and was given a 100th Test cap by the Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar.
