‘Ye decision toh badiya hojayega bhai’ – Fans react to Ravi Shastri’s thoughts on India’s next white ball captain
With present all-format captain Rohit Sharma currently being 36 years old, India will undoubtedly experience a shift in captaincy sometime with seemingly not much cricket left in the veteran batter. If suspicions are accurate, the phase-out process will start after the 2023 One-Day World Cup, and Rohit’s role may change as a result. So, who will lead India’s white-ball team going forward? As the discussion gets off, former team India head coach Ravi Shastri offers his straightforward assessment of one of the top candidates for the role, Hardik Pandya.
The confidence increased as a result of Hardik’s great performance as an allrounder in white-ball cricket and his outstanding captaincy abilities in both IPL and India matches, while Rohit has not quite had a similar story. Hardik has already established himself as the only player to succeed Rohit as the World Cup approaches. Despite excellent performance in T20Is as well as ODIs, Hardik has not played in a Test match since 2018. Hardik has not commented on the matter yet, despite the fact that the majority of veterans have hoped for his comeback to red-ball cricket.
Shastri responded quickly when The Week directly queried him about whether Hardik can also take over as Test captain. He responded by stating that he can take over captaincy post the 2023 One-Day World Cup. The former India all-rounder said, “His body cannot cope with Test cricket. Let’s be very clear about that. After the World Cup, if his body is fit enough, he should take over captaincy in white-ball cricket.”
Ravi Shastri further spoke about the importance of IPL and how the selection process would work according to him. He said, “Because of the IPL, you see an abundance of high-quality, young, white-ball players. But, one should not get carried away by that and think they should be automatic red-ball choices. No, I would rather see the red-ball record. I would sit with the selectors and find out more about who the [red-ball performances] were against, in what conditions, what are their strengths, what is the temperament of the bloke like.”

Why after the 2023 World Cup? I guess india is ready to accept another debacle but not ready to fire non-performers and give opportunities to new young talents.

Actually hardik.pandya should take over white ball captaincy before odi world cup ithink..his best quality of captaincy is he never treats batsmens only..always gives confidence to bowlers..too..

Yes, 9 months out of 12 our captain will be injured only. T20 is fine but Hardik for ODI is not such a wise choice..I doubt if he will even play ODI after 2023.
