The five-time champions Mumbai Indians chased the target of 200+ in IPL 2023 for the second consecutive time as they defeated Punjab Kings by 6 wickets in match number 46 of the season at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. Batting first, PBKS posted a huge total of 214 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. In reply, MI chased down the total in the penultimate over by 6 wickets in hand.

PBKS lost their first wicket in the second over as Prabhsimran Singh got out after scoring just 9 runs. After that, skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Matt Short added 49 runs for the second wicket. Dhawan got out after scoring 30 runs off 20 balls. A few overs later, Short also lost his wicket after scoring 27 off 26 balls.

After that, Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma took charge of the innings and put up an unbeaten partnership of 119 runs for the fourth wicket as PBKS ended up on 214. Livingstone remained unbeaten on 82 runs off 42 balls hitting seven fours and four sixes, while Jitesh smashed 49 off 27 balls with five fours and two maximums. For MI, Piyush Chawla scalped 2 wickets, conceding 29 runs in his four overs, while Arshad Khan put 1 in his bag.

Chasing the winning total, MI had a disastrous start as the skipper Rohit Sharma went for a duck in the very first over of the innings. After that, Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green added 54 runs for the second wicket. Green got out in the last ball of the powerplay after scoring 23 off 18 balls with four boundaries.

After Green’s dismissal, Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav took the PBKS bowlers on remand as they both put up a partnership of 116 runs for the third wicket. Suryakumar got out after smashing 66 runs off 31 balls with 8 fours and two sixes. Kishan, on the other hand, scored 75 runs off 41 balls with seven fours and four sixes.

After that, Tim David (19 off 10) and Tilak Verma (26 off 10) does the remaining task for MI. Tilak hit Arshdeep Singh for a huge six as MI won the game with seven balls to spare. For PBKS, Nathan Ellis scalped 2 wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Rishi Dhawan shared a wicket each.
