Delhi Capitals visited Rajasthan in the Indian Premier League. Delhi enters the contest having suffered two straight defeats in their first two games. At Delhi’s Arun Jaitley stadium, they suffered their most recent defeat to the Gujarat Titans. The host side, Rajasthan Royals, is also entering the game off of a defeat to Chennai Super Kings after a thrilling game that featured high scoring. Delhi made a number of adjustments, including dropping Prithvi Shaw, and chose to bowl first. Despite Jos Butler’s injury, Rajasthan decided to play on with him in the lineup; this appeared to be a crucial choice as he delivered a crucial innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal as well as Jos Butler, the Rajasthan Royals’ regular openers, started launching boundaries like it was nothing from the first over onward. In the first over, the youngster Yashasvi hit Khaleel Ahmed with five fours, and they kept up the pressure all the way through the powerplay. The pair scored 68 runs in their initial six overs while remaining undefeated, putting burden upon the Delhi players. In just 25 balls, Jaiswal reached his fifty-run milestone. Subsequently, Mukesh Kumar, the best Delhi spinner who also subsequently claimed the wicket of Jos Butler, dismissed Jaiswal.

Butler took his time, supported the innings, and attempted to slog it out at the end but was unsuccessful. He didn’t appear to be injured. Riyan Parag failed to take full advantage of his promotion, and Sanju Samson scored a rare duck. Shimron Hetmeyer alongside Dhruv Jurel’s late effort enabled the team to reach a respectable total of 199 in 20 overs.

Delhi’s innings started off horribly as Trent Boult took two key wickets in the first over and key Indian batters in the form of Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey. The job of reaching the mountain total of 200 just got harder for David Warner and Delhi Capitals with the loss of two quick wickets in the first over itself. Sandeep Sharma bowled a beautiful over as he conceded only a few runs to follow up the Trent Boult over.

Warner and Rillee Rossouw started to build the innings but they were only able to accumulate a lot of dot balls which didn’t favour the franchise. Warner was playing a very scratchy innings but built a partnership with Lalit Yadav. The duo added 64 runs before the latter had to give away their wicket. Axar Patel and Rovman Powell had to depart the crease after they tried to increase the scoring rate of the team.

In the end, the target proved to be too much for Delhi Capitals as they lost the match by a huge margin. This is their third consecutive loss of the Indian Premier League season and would be hoping to finally get a victory in their next match. On the other hand, Rajasthan are back to winning ways as they were able to beat Delhi today by 57 runs.
