1983 World Cup winner set to become the next Indian Cricket Board President: Reports
Former India all-rounder Roger Binny is reportedly set to become the next president of the Indian Cricket Board. This means that Jay Shah, who was set to take over one of the highest posts, will remain as the secretary. On the other hand, Rajiv Shukla, who has been the vice president since Ganguly took over, will remain in the same post.
Notably, Binny is a member of the 1983 World Cup winning team, India’s first ODI World Cup title win. Talking about the nominations for the office bearers, the finalized candidates including Binny need to file their nominations by October 11 and 12. The elections will take place on October 18. “Binny will be the new president of the BCCI. Rajivji (Rajiv Shukla) will stay on as the VP,” a source was quoted as saying by the TOI.
Talking about Binny, he has played 27 Tests and 71 ODIs from 1979 to 1987. In the longest format, he has 47 wickets and 830 runs. On the other hand, the Bangalore-born player has scored 629 runs and took 77 wickets in the 50-over format. Apart from this, he has served as the national selector. Notably, during his time, his son and former all-rounder Roger Binny got his maiden call-up for the national side.
Meanwhile, the senior Binny was a surprise candidate for the coveted post when his name appeared in the candidate’s list. The candidates can withdraw their names by October 14. Apart from the Indian Cricket Board president, there will be a few other changes in the board as well. Arun Dhumal, who has been working as the treasurer, is set to become the chairperson of the Indian T20 League. Currently, former India cricketer, Brijesh Patel works in the same post. The new treasurer is set to be Ashish Shelar.
