‘2 drop catch ke baad bhi nahi chala’ – Fans react as KL Rahul gets out after a disappointing knock against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023

After defeating the defending champions, Gujarat Titans (GT) in the last fixture by three wickets, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are locking horns against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 26th encounter of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, in Jaipur on Wednesday, April 19. The RR skipper, Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to ball first.

Batting first, the visitors scored a total of 154 runs with the loss of seven wickets after the completion of the first innings. The top scorer for the side was the star West Indies all-rounder, Kyle Mayers, who scored 51 runs off 42 balls, which included four fours and three sixes in his innings. The LSG skipper, KL Rahul scored crucial 39 runs from 32 balls with four fours and a six. In the end, the West Indies skipper, Nicholas Pooran scored 28 runs from 20 balls with two fours and a six.

The pick of the bowler for RR was India’s veteran off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, who snapped two wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded 23 runs in his spell. One wicket each was grabbed by Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, and Jason Holder, who conceded 16 runs, 32 runs, and 37 runs, respectively, in their spells.

“Doing alright. If we were a bit smarter in the middle phase, we might have restricted them 10 runs shorter. We’ve practised here and it feels a bit slower. You need to play good cricketing shots to score. If we get good starts, back our strengths, bide some time and respect conditions then we can get there. This isn’t a venue where you can tee off from ball one. (On whether pace or spin is better here) I haven’t tried my hand at fast bowling, not at this stage of my career. But the truth is this is a venue where you need to get lengths right because there isn’t much lateral movement. Doesnt matter if you’re a spinner or pacer,” Ashwin was quoted as saying in the mid-innings interview.
