Mumbai has been the most successful franchise in the history of the Indian T20 League. They have managed to win 5 ITL titles, the most by any team. But the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League turned out to be a nightmare for the five-time champions. They lost the first 8 eight of their matches and became the first team to be eliminated from the tournament. Ultimately, they managed to win four of their 14 matches and bowed out of the tournament with only eight points under their belt.

Going forward the team management will evaluate the team’s performance and might look to make some changes. They will take a look at the individual performances of each player in the tournament and based on that can look to release some of them and replace them with players who would be more efficient and effective for the team. Here is a list of three players Mumbai might release ahead of the Indian T20 League 2023.

3. Tymal Mills: Mumbai bought Mills for a price of INR 1.5 Cr. They projected him as a specialist death over bowler and entrusted him the job of accompanying Jasprit Bumrah. But Mills failed to live up to the expectations miserably. His performances allowed Mumbai to give him only five matches in the tournament. He picked up just 6 wickets in those matches and gave away runs at an economy rate of 11.18. He also got injured midway through the tournament and was ruled out of it. Given his performance and failure to live up to the expectations, Mumbai might look to release the English left-arm pacer.

2. Jaydev Unadkat: He was sold to Mumbai for INR 1.30 Cr in the mega auction of the Indian T20 League 2022. He was roped in with the thought that he will add variety to the bowling attack. Unadkat is known for the variety of deliveries in his repertoire. But in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League, he failed to deliver according to expectations. He played 5 matches in the tournament picking up just 6 wickets in them and conceded runs at an economy of 9.5 runs per over. Thus, Mumbai might look to release the player and replace him with a more efficient and in-form death over specialist bowler.

1. Kieron Pollard: Pollard has been one of the biggest and most loyal servants of the Mumbai team since his debut in the Indian T20 League. He has been the architect behind many a memorable win for the franchise. But the Indian T20 League 2022 has been a nightmarish season for the West Indian all-rounder. He batted in 11 innings in the tournament and scored 144 runs in them at an average of 14.4 and a strike rate of 107.46. With the ball in hand also Pollard’s performance was nothing significant. So, despite the value he has added to the squad over the years, he is just a shadow of his old self. Hence, Mumbai might look to release the West Indian.
