After Virat Kohli left his all-captaincy duties, Rohit Sharma was the front-runner for being captain of India across all three formats. As expected, Rohit also became the captain of all three formats but, his fitness issues created a problem for him since then. After getting appointed as the skipper of India, he missed the three-match ODI series against South Africa where KL Rahul did the captaincy duties.
In the recently concluded home T20I series against the Proteas, he was given rest, and again, he missed the one-off Test match against England after getting tested for Covid-19 positive. Therefore, the lack of participation from the regular captain affected the Team most as two mega events await them in the coming days. In recent times, his form as an individual batter also got decreased compared to his runs in 2019, and that created a drawback to Indian cricket.
