Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, India was on a roll as they were leading the Test series against England on English soil at a margin of 2-1 after four matches. However, the last match got canceled last year due to the outbreak of Covid. Hence, this match got rescheduled earlier this month but, this time Rohit Sharma was the captain.
India was on the verge of winning a historical Test series but, they blew their chances as England chased down their highest-ever target of 378 runs with ease, thanks to Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow. Rohit Sharma even missed the match as he got infected with the Covid infection. Jasprit Bumrah was named the captain for that match. Hence, having not a leader like Kohli for this match was a major drawback for India.
