In 2004, MS Dhoni made his ODI debut for India against Bangladesh. His career-best of 183 run knock came against Sri Lanka in 2005. In 2007, he took over the captaincy crown from Rahul Dravid and he also equalled Adam Gilchrist’s international record for most dismissals (6) in an innings in ODIs in that year. In ODIs, Dhoni played 350 matches where he scored 10773 runs, at an average of 50.57. He also smashed 10 hundred and 73 fifties.

In 2008, Dhoni helped India to win a bilateral series over Sri Lanka and a tri-series win after defeating Australia on their home soil. After one year, he guided India to a series victory against New Zealand. In 2011, he also managed to win the World cup followed by a champions trophy win in 2013. His last ODI innings came against New Zealand during the 2019 World cup semi-final where he scored 50 runs off 72 balls. But, India failed to win that match as New Zealand qualified for their second consecutive World cup final in the 50-over format.
