MS Dhoni made his Test debut for India in 2005 against Sri Lanka in Chennai. But. in 2008, during the fourth Test match against Australia at Nagpur, he made his debut as a full-time Test captain. It took just one year for him as he made India, the number one side in the longest format of the game in 2009. Dhoni scored 4876 runs in 90 matches, at an average of 38.09 in this longest format of the game. 

In 2013, he became the most successful Indian Test captain after surpassing former captain, Sourav Ganguly’s 21 wins. In the same year, he smashed his first double hundred in Tests. He scores 224 off 365 balls against Australia, the most runs by an Indian wicketkeeper in an innings. Under his captaincy, India managed to win a Test series against Australia at a margin of 4-0 for the first time at home. However, in 2014, he transferred the Test captaincy baton to Virat Kohli who came out as India’s most successful Test captain later on with 40 wins in 68 matches.
