As Rohit Sharma got ruled out of this match due to Covid-19, Jasprit Bumrah was named the captain. Being the captain, he created a World record while batting in the first innings. He smashed the English veteran pacer Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over and eventually, it became the costliest single over in the history of the longest format of the game.

Bumrah scored 29 runs off them while Broad gifted six runs as extras. This pacer broke the previous record of scoring 28 runs in a single over of Test. He also performed well with the ball as he picked up 23 wickets in nine innings at an economy of 2.76. Bumrah was also named the player of the series for India.
