On 12 September 2022, India announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup. After having a dismal Asia Cup campaign, India will look to do well in this upcoming mega event. But, some players failed to make it into the final squad, even on the stand-by list also.
However, there are some players from the last edition of the Indian T20 League who missed the squad. Respective franchises bought them by spending huge amounts of money. Still, they failed to represent India in the upcoming mega event in Australia.
Here are the five most expensive Indian players of the Indian T20 League 2022 who failed to get a place in the 20-20 World Cup Squad
Ishan Kishan – ₹15.25 crore
This young batter missed a spot from the final squad for the 20-20 World Cup of India. However, in the last auction of the Indian T20 League, he became the second-most expensive Indian buy ever in the history of that tournament. Mumbai franchise bought him for Rs 15.25 crore. However, he failed to prove his worth with performance.
He scored 418 runs in 14 matches, at an average of 32.15. In those innings, Ishan Kishan managed three fifties only. Meanwhile, earlier this year, he played well against the Proteas in the home T20I series. But, after that, he failed to perform at a consistent level. Therefore, selectors did not find a place for him in the squad for the World Cup in Australia.
