After a disappointing result in the last year’s 20-20 World Cup, India will look to do better in this year’s mega-event in Australia. It will be Rohit Sharma’s first assignment to win a major title for India after being appointed as the captain of all three formats of the game.

However, India is in some place of bother as their top batters like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not in good touch for some time. Now, a former Indian batter, Virender Sehwag opened up on his preferred India squad ahead of this World Cup.

“India has options aplenty when it comes to hard hitters in T20s” – Virender Sehwag

Speaking to PTI, this former Indian opener said that India has plenty of options in T20Is, and thus, he opted for Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul as his preferred top-three batters. Interestingly, he excluded Virat Kohli from that list as he is going through a lean patch of runs for some time now.

He said: “India has options aplenty when it comes to hard hitters in T20s. However, I would personally vouch for Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul as the top three batters for the World Cup in Australia,”

Sehwag also added that it will help to bring a right-hand and left-hand combination at the start of the innings. “The right-hand and left-hand combination of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, or for that matter, Ishan and KL Rahul could be quite interesting for the World T20,” he added.

Speaking about further players, he hailed the impact of Umran Malik from this year’s Indian T20 League. “If there is one pacer who has thoroughly impressed me, of late, it is none other than Umran Malik. He should definitely be part of India’s plans as one of the key bowlers alongside the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. This Indian T20 League has given us many promising young bowlers, but Umran’s skills and talent will definitely earn him a place in the Indian across all three formats in the long run,” Sehwag concluded.
