Cricket West Indies issues an apology post losing to Scotland in 20-20 World Cup 2022

Scotland pulled off an upset against the West Indies in the First Round Group B at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Batting first, the European team scored 160/5, thanks to George Munsey’s fifty and cameos from Calum MacLeod and Chris Greaves. For the former champions, Alzarri Joseph and former skipper Jason Holder took two wickets each. In reply, the two-time winners failed to chase down the total.
Seven batters from the Maroon Brigade failed to cross the double-digit mark. Holder was the highest scorer with 38 runs. The team was bowled out for 118 in 18.3 overs, losing the game by 42 runs. After the loss, the Cricket West Indies issued an apology on Twitter and wrote “Disappointing day. Apologies to all #WestIndies fans worldwide. #T20WorldCup, #WIvSCO,” wrote CWI on social media.
Our batting was unprofessional: Phil Simmons
After the game, the losing team’s head coach, Phil Simmons stated that the team’s batting was ‘unprofessional’. Notably, the team was at 58/2 at one stage of the game. However, they lost their last eight wickets for 60 runs.
“I think the only world you can look for is ‘disappointed’. I think our batting – at least today – was definitely a bit unprofessional,” Simmons said. “We need to wake up and start being as professional as we can be, when we are batting. The bowlers seem to be working hard and putting us in good positions but the batters continue to falter.”
