‘Legend in making’ – Fans react as Yashasvi Jaiswal scores most runs as uncapped Indian in IPL season
Rajasthan Royals (RR) star young opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal broke the 15-year-old record to become the uncapped player with the most runs in a single season of the Indian Premier League. The 21-year-old has amassed 625 runs so far in the 14 matches played in IPL 2023, surpassing the former Australian batter Shaun Marsh who scored 616 runs for Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) in the inaugural season of the tournament in 2008.
Jaiswal achieved this milestone after he played a 50-run knock while chasing 188 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in match number 66 of IPL 2023 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala. Jaiswal had a great season so far and now became one of the crucial players for RR.
Shaun Marsh held the record before Jaiswal as he amassed 616 runs in 2008 at an average of 68.44 including five fifties and a century, and also ended up winning the Orange cap for scoring most runs in the inaugural. He then went on to make his debut for Australia in June 2008. Now, Jaiswal surpassed him after he scored his 42nd run against Marsh’s former IPL team. He has scored five half-centuries and a hundred in the ongoing season and yet to make his debut for the Indian team.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Yashasvi Jaiswal achieving the great feat:
No doubt he is a great talent but a fundamental flaw in your observation. More often than not, an uncapped player will be young. Nothing extraordinary if he is 21. Instead it would have been extraordinary had be been 35.
