Here’s why Ravichandran Ashwin could make it to ODI World Cup 2023
Star India bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin is not been included in the ODI squad for the three-match series against the West Indies. The first match of the series will be played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, in Barbados on Thursday, July 27, while the second fixture will be played on Saturday, July 29 at the same venue. The third and final encounter of the series will be played at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, in Trinidad.
However, despite a long break of 18 months, it is believed that he can make it to the squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup which is scheduled to take place later this year in the month October-November in India. According to a report by InsideSport, an Indian Cricket Board official said, “Ashwin was never out of the scheme of things. It is up to the selectors who they want to pick for specific formats.”
Ashwin has control thanks to his finger-spinning ability. Quality left-handed batters are present in most teams, and Ashwin has an advantage against these batters that is now well-known worldwide. It comes as little surprise that Ashwin would make another unexpected comeback in a World Cup year. Additionally, Ashwin has a wealth of experience. He competed for India in the 2011 World Cup, which they won. Additionally, he participated in Australia‘s 2015 World Cup.
In addition to the fact that India lacks an off-spinner in their ODI lineup, Ashwin’s ability to bowl with the new ball and the depth he offers with the bat are two more factors. Washington Sundar was an alternative, but now that he has been selected for the Asian Games team, he is no longer eligible for a World Cup place.
