India started Day 4 in a commanding position with an all-round performance in the second Test against the West Indies at Port of Spain on Sunday. Mohammed Siraj took 5 wickets, limiting the hosts to 255 runs in their first innings. The visitors come out aggressive on Day 4, giving them the best chance to win the Test match on another rain-hit day in Port of Spain.

India batted with an aggressive approach in their second innings, despite the rain forecast. Siraj picks his career-best on Day 4

On Day 4, Mohammed Siraj set up India’s strong performance with a career-best five-wicket haul. This was Siraj’s second five-wicket haul in Test cricket, and it bowled out the West Indies for 255. West Indies were 229 for 5 at the start of the day’s play, but they lost their final five wickets for only 26 runs. Siraj’s blistering performance destroyed the West Indies’ middle and lower order, finishing with figures of 5/50. He became the seventh Indian bowler to record a five-wicket haul in the West Indies, ensuring India secured a substantial 183-run lead in the first innings.

Coming out to bat in the second innings the Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma started off the innings aggressively, scoring at more than a run-a-ball, swelling India’s lead past 300. India got to 100 in just 12.2 overs, the fastest team to score 100 in Test cricket. The Indian skipper also smashed his fastest Test fifty off 35 balls.

The hosts went to Stumps at 76 for 2 after having batted 32 overs after having been set a 365-run target. Ravichandran Ashwin got Windies captain Kraigg Brathwaite for the 4th time in the series before getting left-hander Kirk McKenzie for 0, as India put themselves in a good position to seal a 2-0 series sweep.
