Apex cricket council labels ODI World Cup 2023 semifinals and finals pitch ‘average’
The apex cricket Council recently rated the pitch of the finals and the semi-final match of the ODI World Cup 2023 as ‘average’. The final match of the ODI World Cup 2023 was conducted at the biggest cricket Stadium in the world, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad while the semi-final match of the tournament was conducted at the prestigious ground of Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The rating that was given by the match referee Andy Pycroft while Javagal Srinath.
The finals and semi-final match in Ahmedabad and Kolkata were both won by Australia, however, as per sources Rohit Sharma and the team management had already conveyed about the conditions of the pitch to the Indian cricket board, before the finals but no changes were made.

The sluggish and slow wicket of the finals made India to score only 240 runs in the first innings making it an easy target for Australia to chase.
The Indian cricket team’s head coach Rahul Dravid expressed his disappointment with the pitch conditions in the official meeting with the Indian cricket board and said “we lost the final because we did not get the expected turn from the pitch. If out spinners had enough turn, we would win. We won the first 10 match on the same strategy but it did not work in the Final.”
In the post match ceremony after losing the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 India’s captain Rohit Sharma spoke about the pitch of the Narendra Modi Stadium and said, “We tried everything we could but I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don’t want to give that as an excuse. We knew under lights it would be slightly better to bat, but don’t want to give that as an excuse.”
