‘Aa jaye toh sahi hai’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma provides an update regarding Shreyas Iyer’s fitness ahead of ODI World Cup 2023
Team India skipper, Rohit Sharma provided an update on the right-hand batter, Shreyas Iyer’s fitness ahead of the much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 which is scheduled to kick start on October 5. The last year’s finalists England and New Zealand will lock horns against each other in the opener at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad.
The Men in Bule are with the services of key players such as Iyer, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah quite a few times now due to their respective injuries. They have missed two of the main tournaments so far which include the Indian Premier League 2023 and the World Test Championship Final 2023. “Shreyas Iyer is on the track to full fitness, so fingers crossed for World Cup,” Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying.
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are 80% fit but aren’t yet match-fit: Reports
Both Rahul and Iyer have started practicing in the nets of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), in Bangalore. A senior Indian Cricket Board official has provided an update on Rahul and Iyer’s fitness saying that players are recovering and can make themselves available for the Asia Cup 2023 squad.
“We are very sure that both of them will be fit for World Cup. They may very well be fit by the time Asia Cup begins. But we won’t be rushing them. Rahul should be fine in three weeks’ time. As for Shreyas, we will know more in the next two days,” an Indian Cricket Board official was quoted as saying to InsideSports.
The Indian Cricket Board is likely to announce the Asia Cup 2023 squad soon. They are waiting for the fitness report of both of the star India batters of the Test which took place this week. Once the report comes, the Indian Board will announce the squad for the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup. “We are waiting for a couple of injury updates. KL and Shreyas are 80% fit but aren’t yet match-fit. We expect an assessment report by Saturday. Once we have more clarity, the squad will be announced,” the official asserted.
