‘Aaj toh vadapav ki party’ – Fans react as Mumbai Indians defeat Delhi Capitals in last-ball thriller in IPL 2023
After losing the first three encounters of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, the Delhi Capitals (DC) locked horns against the five-time champion, Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, April 11. The MI side won the match on the last ball by six wickets Rohit Sharma was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant performance.
If we talk about the fixture, the MI skipper Rohit won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, the DC side was bundled out for 172 runs in the 19.4 overs they played. The highest scorer for them was the star India all-rounder Axar Patel who scored 54 runs off 25 balls which included 4 fours and 5 sixes. Capitals skipper David Warner also scored crucial 51 runs from 47 balls with six fours.
For the visitors, the pick of the bowler was Jason Behredorff and Piyush Chawla who snapped three wickets each in their respective spells. Where one side Behrendroff conceded 23 runs in his 4 overs on the other and Chawla conceded 22 runs in his four overs. Two wickets were grabbed by Riley Meredith and one wicket was bagged by Hrithik Shokeen.
I tried to create a partnership, and had good communication with Tilak: Rohit Sharma
MI while chasing a target of 173 runs, completed the chase on the last ball of the match. The highest scorer for them was Rohit who scored 65 runs off 45 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes. Tilak Varma also played an important knock of 41 runs off just 29 balls with 4 sixes and a four.
“Winning the game is the most important. We have been working hard since the first game. We had a camp in Mumbai, and getting the result (in our favor) feels good. The first win is always special. We played a Test match here recently, the pitch looked different. Getting a slow bowler was important on this pitch. The spinners kept us in the game. We needed to bat well to chase the total. I thought everyone put their hand up. We had to make it count for the team,” Men in Blue skipper was quoted as saying on the post-match presentation.
I needed to make use of the powerplay, I knew we had to keep attacking and take our chances. I tried to create a partnership and had good communication with Tilak. It was important for us to have a good partnership. We have young guys who haven’t played IPL before, so it’s important to have faith in them. Give them that confidence, and we are trying to have a healthy atmosphere in the dressing room. Don’t need to make drastic changes, that’s really important” the 35-year-old added.

It's all Mustafiz's fault.
Had he not given 15 runs in the 19th over, DC would've won the match.
Hats of too Nortje for brilliant death bowling ❤️❤️— Ehamoon (@c1a67717fe2b496) April 11, 2023
Scared the wits out of me this one. What an over by Nortje, infact his last 2 overs have been sensational. But Cam Green was really good under pressure. Those boundaries won it for us.
