Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra has stated that Shreyas Iyer’s absence from the last three Test against England is due to his batting style in the second Test. On Saturday, the selectors announced the team for the remaining Test matches. Till now in the ongoing Test series between India and England, Shreyas Iyer has smashed 104 runs with an average of 26. As per reports he is out of action due to stiff back and groin pain.

Aakash Chopra believed that Shreyas Iyer may come back for the last two Test matches. Due to his batting performance, selectors decided not to include him in the team.

While facing James Anderson and England spinners in the first innings Aakash Chopra saw that he was backing away he didn’t use proper technique.

“According to reports, he was available for selection because there were three matches. So, even if he wasn’t available for one match, he could have played the other two. So, he was eligible for selection.” “However, the selectors said that they weren’t going to pick him. Shubman Gill was also in the same boat but he never looked ugly. People said that about Shreyas in the Vizag Test match and what they said wasn’t wrong, ” Aakash Chopra said.

Shreyas Iyer needs to improve his flaws to flourish in Test cricket – Aakash Chopra

Highlighting Shreyas’s absence of a half-century in his past 13 Test innings, Chopra said that his uneven performance, along with his attitude, may have turned off the selectors and team management.

“During the Vizag match, he backed away while playing every short ball. It just doesn’t look good. If you start playing like that, you’ll definitely wonder why he’s doing it since it doesn’t look correct.”

Chopra emphasised Shreyas Iyer’s need to improve his flaws to flourish in Test cricket, while also expressing faith in his white-ball ability. He continued by encouraging Shreyas to recuperate swiftly and concentrate on scoring runs in the Ranji Trophy, emphasising that a comeback was always possible given his Test debut century.

“Shreyas Iyer had an excellent World Cup. I believe his white-ball cricket will continue to be good. He will continue to bat effectively, but this problem will resurface in Test cricket until he fully solves it.”
