‘Ab aadat hogayee hai’ – Fans react to Jasprit Bumrah’s injury update, could miss Indian T20 League and Test Championship finals
India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is recovering from a back injury. Although recent reports suggested that he might make a comeback in time for the cash-rich Indian T20 League, it is now looking unlikely for the right-arm quick. Per reports, his recovery period may be prolonged and the 29-year-old may miss the premier T20 League of the country and the subsequent Test Championship finals.
The pacer has missed important games for India in 2022 including the Asia Cup and the 20-20 World Cup. He also failed to play a part in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series against Australia, which is crucial for India to qualify for the finals of the Test Championship to be played at the Oval between 18 and 23 June 2023.
Indian Cricket Board wants Jasprit Bumrah available for the ODI World Cup
Some sources within the Indian Cricket Board suggest that Bumrah’s injury is quite serious and the pacer take miss as many as five months of upcoming cricket which includes the coveted finals of the Test Championships. It is understood that the Board wants Bumrah back before the ODI World Cup scheduled later this year.
The last time the 29-year-old right-arm pacer played in the national outfit was in a T20I against Australia on 25 September 2023. Since then, Bumrah has been rehabilitated at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
Meanwhile, Bumrah’s unavailability in the upcoming Indian T20 League comes as a big blow for the Mumbai Franchise which had a disastrous run last season. They finished at the bottom of the league with just four wins in 14 games.
Notably, the last time India played a Test in English conditions, Bumrah was leading the Indian team. The situation can be very different this time with him running the risk of missing the Test Championship final. India have almost confirmed their place in the final after winning the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), they are just one win away from contesting consecutive finals in the game’s longest format.

Unfortunately, this was expected with his action that puts immense pressure on his back. Never should have all formats and should have managed his load – perhaps by picking 1 format t20 or tests .. IPL made most sense to maximize career earnings
