During the nets, it was evident that Rohit Sharma would open with Shubman Gill at the top. Despite the lack of form, the 23-year-old is set to persist as the opener. The Indian team management sent their players to bat in the center-wicket. After the Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill duo, it was time for the real test.
Number 4 and 5 positions settled for India?
Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer came out to bat. It is now believed that Virat Kohli is set to continue at the number three position. Shreyas Iyer on the other hand will be batting at number four position. The right-handed batter from Mumbai is making his comeback after a long injury lay-off. The future of KL Rahul has been widely debated ever since he came picked up a niggle. The 31-year-old was seen batting as he came out after the Kohli and Iyer. This suggested that KL Rahul is all but confirmed to bat at his number five position.
It remains to be seen if KL Rahul starts as the first-choice wicket keeper. The 31-year-old did not run between the wickets during his batting session which was being monitored by the captain and the Indian selector. Rounding off the pair and the favorite to bat at number 6 is Surya Kumar Yadav. The swashbuckling right-hander came out with KL Rahul. While the top five is confirmed, the future of Surya Kumar Yadav is still up in the air considering his current ODI form. Ishan Kishan and even Tilak Varma still could be in contention for a place in the team for the Pakistan game in Asia Cup 2023.
