‘Ambani ne bhagwan ko kharid lia’ – Fans react as MI beat SRH by 8 wickets riding on Cameron Green’s century
The Mumbai Indians hosted the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a crucial match of the Indian Premier League 2023, where a victory was imperative for Mumbai. While Sunrisers Hyderabad had nothing to lose, Mumbai Indians had a lot riding on this match as their fate depended on it.
After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma opted to field first at Wankhede Stadium, considering their strength in chasing this season. However, this decision didn’t work out initially as Sunrisers Hyderabad’s opening batsmen, Mayank Agarwal and Vivrant Sharma, delivered an outstanding performance, establishing the highest partnership of the season for their team.
The duo put up an impressive 140-run partnership for the first wicket, with both batsmen reaching their half-centuries. MI managed to break the partnership in the 14th over when Akash Madhwal dismissed Sharma, who scored 69 runs off 47 balls. Madhwal struck again in the 17th over, taking the crucial wicket of Agarwal, who scored 83 runs off 46 balls.
Despite losing a few more wickets, Sunrisers Hyderabad reached a formidable total of 200 runs in the first innings, thanks to valuable contributions from Heinrich Klaasen (18) and Aiden Markram (13). Madhwal emerged as the leading wicket-taker for MI with four wickets, while Chris Jordan managed to claim only one.
Cameron Green shows no mercy to the bowlers
During the chase, the Mumbai Indians suffered an early setback with the dismissal of Ishan Kishan. However, Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green ignited a blazing partnership. Undeterred by the early setback, the all-rounder immediately started attacking, while the captain played a supporting role.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers were helpless against the onslaught by the two batsmen, as they stitched together a remarkable 128-run partnership for the second wicket. Rohit’s innings came to an end in the 14th over when Mayank Dagar dismissed him after he had scored 56 runs off 37 balls.
Suryakumar Yadav then joined the scoring party as Green approached his first-ever century in the tournament. Green (100 runs in 47 balls) ultimately achieved this feat by scoring the winning runs for his team. With an 8-wicket victory over SRH, MI moved closer to securing a playoff spot. Now, they will closely follow the RCB vs GT match to determine which team advances.
