‘Ash Anna Supremacy’ – Ravichandran Ashwin rattles Australia’s middle order in the 4th BGT Test in Ahmedabad
India and Australia are in action in Ahmedabad, playing in the final test of the 4-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series. The final test is of great importance to both sides. While the hosts have a spot on the line in the final of the Global Test Championship, the visitors are looking to avoid a third-straight Test series defeat against India. Notably, India won the last two BGT Test series in Australia, setting themselves up for a hat trick of Test series wins against the Kangaroos.
In the ongoing Test, India star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has again caught the limelight with his exceptional bowling on Day 2. Overnight, the Aussies were sitting at 255/4. The hosts could not find an answer to the visitor’s excellent batting as the morning session went wicketless. However, Ashwin had his plans prepared. Although the visitors had already added a lot of runs on the board, Ashwin remained calm and produced three scalps in quick succession.
Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a double-wicket maiden in the 131st over
Ashwin once more came to the team’s aid by giving the hosts back-to-back successes in the same over. In order to end their 208-run partnership with Usman Khawaja, he dismissed set batsman Cameron Green, then showed Alex Carey the way to the pavilion on a four-ball duck. Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green kept the Indian squad on its toes for more than two sessions over the course of two days, with Indian fans abandoning all hope.
Until Ashwin ultimately ended their double-century stand on day 2, Khawaja had already contributed 58 runs and Green 65. The top all-rounder for Australia was dismissed after amassing 114 runs. Before the Kangaroos could recover from losing Green, Alex Carey left and returned to the dugout.
Ashwin’s consecutive dismissals rekindled the enthusiasm of Indian fans. He then delivered another outstanding delivery to dismiss Mitchell Starc. His three wickets on day two are the only blows that Australia has experienced since the morning.
Here’s how fans reacted to Ashwin’s exceptional bowling:
