‘Barbados ho ya Rajasthan, Knight Riders owns Royals’ – Fans react as Trinbago Knight Riders defeat Barbados Royals by 133 runs in CPL 2023

Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders recently encountered each other in the 13th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on 30 August 2023, Wednesday at the Kensington Oval Stadium, Barbados. Barbados Royals won the toss and chose to bowl first, and the opposite team collectively put a high target on the board.

The New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill and West Indies batsman Kieron Pollard, led Trinbago Knight Riders to a high score as they scored 100 and 46 runs off 58 and 32 deliveries with a strike rate of 172.41 and 143.75, respectively. Martin Guptill smashed one four and nine huge sixed that left the spectators in awe. The middle-order batsman Kieron Pollard scored 1 four and 4 sixes to lead Dambulla Aura to a score of 194-5.

Barbados Royals miserably failed to chase the target of 195 runs and got dismissed for 61 runs at the end of 12.1 overs. The team’s captain Rovman Powell and Jason Holder became the highest scorers for the team by scoring 10 and 14 runs off 7 and 15 deliveries respectively.

“We need to go to better bowling plans” – Rovman Powell

Trinbago Knight Riders sealed an easy victory against Barbados Royals by 133 runs. With 5 points Trinbago Knight Riders came on the third spot of the Points Table.

“It wasn’t up to par, we have played three games and all three games we had to chase 190+. We need to go to better bowling plans. It just didn’t go according to plan, those things do happen. There was a lot of moisture around, so it was a good decision to bowl. Credit to Martin Guptill and Pollard and TKR, they batted pretty well on a good wicket. The senior players have to stand up and score runs. The youngsters will contribute, but the senior guys will have to score the 70s and 80s. All I ask of the boys is to improve. 10-15% improvement tomorrow and that is good. The support today from the Bajans was fantastic, hopefully that continues for the rest of the games” said Wanindu Hasaranga, Captain of Barbados Royals.

“When we don’t deliver performances, a lot of people are disappointed and there’s a lot of headlines going around. I must commend the guys the way we fought back in the last couple of games. Martin (Guptill) was looking for some runs, struggling a bit. As a team, we are very happy that he was able to score a hundred this innings. The situation – it’s something you have to respect. When I came in, Qais was bowling pretty well, he was spinning the ball from middle and leg, I just restrained myself. Guptill kept taking the pressure off. It was a matter of me rotating the strike. When planning comes together, you feel happy. We decided to drop two of our main fast bowlers to play Waqar (Salamkheil). He repaid the faith. I understand how the pitch plays here.”, Said Kieron Pollard, Captain Trinbago Knight Riders.
