‘Bas isse Vadapav khil valo’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma departs early versus Bangalore in Indian T20 League 2023
The Bangalore franchise is locking horns against the five times champion Mumbai side in the fifth match of the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League (ITL) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The home team skipper, Faf Du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first. The hosts while batting first, lost the wicket of their skipper Rohit Sharma early in the game.
The Men in Blue skipper was able to score only one run in the 10 balls he faced in the innings. After Rohit’s wicket, the batting collapse continued for the most successful franchise in the ITL. Players like Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, and Tim David were not able to score big for their side this time around as they were able to score only 15 runs, five runs, and four runs, respectively.
Tilak Varma shines as Mumbai post 171
The young all-rounder from Punjab, Nehal WaWadhera played an important knock of 21 runs from 13 balls, which included one four and two sixes, while the other youngster, Hrithik Shokeen was able to score only five runs in the three balls with one four. The Mumbai side finished the first innings with a score of 171 runs.
The highest run scorer for the visitors was Tilak Varma, who scored an unbeaten knock of 84 runs from 46 balls, which included nine fours and four sixes. All-rounder Arshad Khan also played a crucial unbeaten knock of 15 runs from nine balls with one six. For the Bangalore franchise, the pick of the bowler was leg spinner Karn Sharma who snapped two wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded 32 runs.
“My plan was to adjust to the wicket and see how it was doing. It was holding a bit. So, I took my time initially and then see how it goes. My mindset was positive and I was constantly talking to my partners and asking them what a good score would be. The ball from the spinners was holding up a bit. So, they were a little tough as compared to the pacers. I was thinking that he can bowl wide yorkers. He was under pressure. I was just backing myself to punish him if he missed, so he was under pressure there,” Varma was quoted as saying during the mid-innings interview.
