The Indian T20 League 2022 has been reportedly hit by the COVID scare. The latest developments state that a player of the Delhi team has tested positive for COVID-19. The team has henceforth decided to cancel their scheduled travel to Pune for their next game in the tournament. The players and other members are in quarantine in their rooms wherein door-to-door COVID tests will be conducted on Monday (April 18) and Tuesday (April 19).

The team’s physio Patrick Farhart earlier tested positive and underwent isolation. Now it’s a player who has contracted the virus and these are ominous signs for the tournament. Notably, in 2021 the tournament was postponed midway and was later shifted to UAE amidst the COVID-19 crisis. The BCCI will try and avoid such a situation this time around.

As per reports by Cricbuzz, the affected player has tested positive on the Rapid Antigen Test. He is to undergo an RT-PCR test to confirm the result. The other players and squad members will also undergo COVID tests before they travel to Pune for their next match. Delhi is scheduled to play Punjab at the MCA Stadium in Pune on April 20th.

The rules from BCCI state that if a team fails to field a playing XI in a match owing to the COVID-19 crisis, the same fixture will be postponed. If that is not possible then the issue will be addressed to the ITL Technical Committee for the final decision.

“BCCI, at its discretion, will attempt to reschedule the match for later in the season if a team cannot field a playing XI due to COVID-19. If this is not possible, the issue will be referred to the ITL Technical Committee,”- reads the rule. The Indian T20 League 2022 is nearly halfway through and all the matches so far have gone by without any disruption. BCCI will look to avoid any hassle and would like the tournament to go by smoothly.
