 ‘CBI ko bulao, kuch toh gadbag hai isme’ – Fans react as Indian Cricket Board pay 1,159 Cr income tax in 2021-22

Indian Cricket Board paid Rs. 1,159 crore income tax in the financial year 2021-22, which amounts to a 37 per cent hike from the previous financial year of 2020-21. Recently, a question was raised in the Rajya Sabha regarding the Indian Cricket Board’s income and its related paid tax, to which the Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary replied by giving exclusive details about the income tax paid by the Indian cricket board and its income and expenditure in the last five years. 

Previously, In the financial year of 2020-21, the Indian Cricket Board paid Rs. 844.92 crores in income tax, a little lower than Rs. 882.29 crores, that was paid in the financial year 2019-20. In FY 2019, the governing board paid Rs. 815.08 crore as taxes, higher than Rs. 596.63 crore paid in 2017-18.

In the 2021-22 financial year, BCCI gained revenue of Rs. 7,606 crore, while its expenditure was approximately Rs. 3,064 crore. In 2020-21, its income stood at Rs. 4,735 crore and expenditure at Rs. 3,080 crore. 

Indian Cricket Board generated high revenue

As soon as the private numbers were revealed to the public, the Indian Cricket Board became the talk of the town with its exceedingly high numbers. The netizens had some interesting take on the highly generated revenue by the Indian Cricket Board. 

A user wrote ‘I invoke CBI to investigate this money laundering case… Kuch toh gadbad hai isme..’. Another user wrote ‘Still stadiums will be unworthy of visiting, chairs will be so uncomfortable that you wouldn’t mind standing throughout the match and at last you feel isse acha toh Hotstar pr dekh leta’  as he trolled the Indian cricket board as he complained about the poor state of the stadiums. 

Some users openly trolled the Pakistan cricket board, and wrote ‘Pakistan Cricket Board having this much as an entire year’s budget’, ‘That should be more than our rival’s country wealth, our rivals should work a lot on development.’
