‘Chennai ki homecoming puri hui’ – Fans react as Chennai beat Lucknow by 12 runs to secure their first win in ITL 2023
Chennai was back at their fortress that goes by the name of MA Chidambaram stadium. They face Lucknow in a game that could go either way as both teams had a settled unit. KL Rahul, the visiting captain won the toss and chose to field first. This decision was proven wrong by the Chennai openers as they smacked the Lucknow bowlers out of the park. Chennai scored over 75 runs in the powerplay as Ruturaj Gaikwad looked clinical, once again, and was hammering the bowlers for fun.
When Conway lost his wicket, he was on 47 off 29 balls. Ruturaj, on the other hand fell for 57 off 31 balls. After that, Chennai’s scoring rate took a slight dip as Moeen Ali and Shivam Dube had trouble getting moving. However, the duo succeeded in making their big shots prior to being dismissed.
Before Dhoni hit two sixes off the three balls he encountered, he also surpassed 5000 runs in the league, while the other players all made brief appearances. Rayudu stood out for his unbeaten 27 off 14 balls. After the 10th over, Chennai eased down, but they still scored a staggering 217/7 in their 20 overs.
Kyle Mayers’ half-century in 21 balls during the powerplay helped Lucknow get off to a fast start as they tried to chase a lofty goal of 218. However, the host team has quickly gotten back into the game after losing three wickets in a row. Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner got the Chennai franchise back into the game, and that was the moment that changed the tide of the game.
All the batters that came in, scored some beautiful shots but got out to the spinners and some excellent field setting by the Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. No other batter apart from Kyle Mayers was able to cause any big damage apart from hitting a few big hits from Nicholas Pooran . Moeen Ali was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped four wickets at a very low economy rate.
In the end, Chennai bowlers, who did get some pasting by the Lucknow batters, were able to get the job done for the franchise. Even though, the scoreline may suggest that the game might have been close, it was an easy win after the wicket of Mayers. Chennai registered their first win in the tournament as they defeated Lucknow by 12 runs
