Punjab Kings pulled off an amazing chase as they defeated Chennai Super Kings in a last-ball thriller at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium by 4 wickets in match number 41 of IPL 2023. Batting first, CSK posted a total of 200 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, powered by the 92-run knock by Devon Conway. In reply, PBKS chased the winning total on the last ball of the match by losing 6 wickets.

CSK had a great start as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Conway put up a partnership of 86 runs for the first wickets in 9.4 overs. Gaikwad got out after scoring 37 runs off 31 balls with four fours and a maximum. After that, Conway and Shivam Dube took charge in the middle overs, scoring 44 runs for the second wicket. Dube got out after scoring 28 runs off 17 balls with one four and two sixes.

Conway, however, remained unbeaten on 92 runs off 52 balls, hitting 16 fours and a maximum. Skipper MS Dhoni added the finishing touches by hitting consecutive sixes on the last two balls of the innings as CSK reached 200 runs. For PBKS, Arshdeep Singh, Rahul Chahar, Sam Curran and Sikandar Raza shared a wicket each.

Small but affective innings helped PBKS to chase the winning total

Chasing 201 runs, PBKS had a flying start as the skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh added 50 runs for the first wicket in 4.2 overs. Dhawan got out after scoring 28 runs off 15 balls with four fours and one six. After a few overs, Prabhsimran also lost his wicket after scoring 42 runs off 24 balls hitting four fours and two sixes. In the next couple of overs, PBKS lost two quick wickets and the score was reduced to 94 for 3 in 10.2 overs.

After that, Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran took charge in the middle overs by putting up a partnership of 57 runs for the fourth wicket. Livingstone got out after scoring 40 off 24 balls with one four and four sixes. Curran, on the other hand, scored 29 off 20 with one four and a maximum. Jitesh Sharma also played a fantastic cameo but got out in the penultimate over after smashing 21 off 10 balls.

The match went down to the last ball of the last over with PBKS needing 3 runs. Sikandar Raza pulled the short-length delivery by Matheesha Pathirana over the backward square leg and successfully completed three runs along with Shahrukh Khan on the other end to give PBKS a thrilling victory CSK at their own backyard.

For CSK, Tushar Deshpande scalped 3 wickets, Ravindra Jadeja took 2, while Pathirana put 1 in his bag.
