‘Disappointing series…’ – Babar Azam gives firm remark post whitewash against England
Pakistan and England competed against each other in the third Test of the ongoing three-match series and it was the latter who won the game using their ‘Bazzball’ style of play, eventually whitewashing the Babar Azam-led men in their own backyard. Chasing a target of 167, the Three Lions did it in style on Day 4 with 8 wickets to spare on the back of an aggressive innings from Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett.
To add more, while Crawley added 41 runs to England’s scoreboard, Duckett, on the other hand, gathered 82 runs and ensured that the English team chased the total down. With the win, England created history by becoming the first team to whitewash Pakistan in their own backyard in the history of 75 years.
Concerning the match, Pakistan batted first and put on 304 runs on the board in their first innings with the help of Babar’s 78 and Agha Salman’s 56. On the back of Harry Brook’s 111, the Three Lions bounced back in their first innings to put on 354 runs on the board. After restricting the Pakistani men to just 216 runs in their second innings, England ensured that they chased a minimal target.
Disappointing series as a team: Babar Azam
Opening up on the loss, the Pakistani skipper Babar said that it was a disappointing series overall and claimed that the team could not fight back against the team. Further, the right-handed batter did not shy away from heaping praise on the English team for their dominating style of play.
“Disappointing series as a team. We weren’t good enough to fight back but credit also goes to England. They played really well. We lost (this game) in the first innings. We were good in patches but not consistent overall. (Bowling) It has been a challenge when your best bowlers are not fit. We have a lot of positives to take from this series to take into the next one but we also have to fix up our mistakes too,” Babar was quoted as saying post the conclusion of the match.
