‘Don’t forget that they have won T20I World Cup twice’ – Sunil Gavaskar on India’s T20I series loss against West Indies
Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar recently motivated the Indian cricket team through his columns after the team’s terrible defeat against West Indies. Sunil Gavaskar urges the team and the players to not to be demotivated by the loss or consider it as an act of shame, but instead, find it as a wake-up call and work harder in the upcoming tournaments and series.
Indian cricket team recently lost their first five-match T20I series against West Indies for the first time in a decade under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. After losing the first match of the series, the team managed to equal the score of 2-2 at the end of the fourth T20I match, which gave the Indian cricket fans the faith that their team will easily win the bilateral series across all formats, which was ultimately broken in the fifth T20I.

“The loss to West Indies should not be a dampener. Don’t forget that they have won the ICC T20 World Cup twice, and their players are match-winners for the different franchises they play for in the IPL. So, they are a top-class T20 team, and there’s no shame in losing to them,” said Sunil Gavaskar.
“It should be a wake-up call, though, to see the areas where India needs to improve to strengthen its side. Some of those who were rested for this series may not be around for too long, so their replacements need to be found pretty quickly too, as the next ICC T20 World Cup is just a year away,” added Sunil Gavaskar.
The Indian team captain Hardik Pandya also motivated the squad and called the series loss as an opportunity to learn.
“Losing is good at times. On the positive side, we have done a lot of learning. The boys showed character. Credit to them. They kept coming and tried something new. It is part of the process. It is what I feel at that moment. If I see a situation, I generally prefer something that comes to mind”, said Hardik Pandya in the post match conference of the fifth T20I match.
