‘Everyone plays in the IPL and does well too but…’ – Former India cricketer slams Indian team management for not focusing on T20Is
Aakash Chopra recently highlighted a major breakthrough observation in his recent YouTube video regarding India’s T20I squad. The former Indian opening batsman believes that the Indian squad is making too many changes and multiple experiments instead of trying to find and make a core team for the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Aakash Chopra also talked about how before the T20 World Cup 2024, India is scheduled to play only 14 T20I matches. Chopra also highlighted how all the batsmen usually performed well in the Indian Premier League but to play the World Cup, the young batsmen need to play more international matches.
The statement came to light after Ishan Kishan was rested by the team management to make way for Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Shubman Gill remained a constant play as the opening batsman. Akash also talked about how Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill will miss India’s tour of Ireland and will not get a chance to play T20I Cricket for a few months now.
Aakash Chopra also stated how we have won a World Cup only once since the IPL has existed, hence the Indian cricket team needs to play more T20I matches with their core team.
Aakash Chopra on Ishan Kishan presence in the team
“We were experimenting in ODIs recently and now we are not taking T20Is that seriously as well. I will tell you why? Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill are both not going to Ireland. I can understand that people need breaks but we have only 14 T20I games from now till the next Men’s T20 World Cup (in West Indies and USA 2024)”, said Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel.
“Don’t think about the IPL because everyone plays in the IPL and does well too but that does not mean that we win the World Cup. In fact, we don’t win at all. We won the World Cup once when the IPL wasn’t there. So you need to play T20 internationals,” added Aakash Chopra in the video.
