Fakhar Zaman’s sly dig at Pakistan’s economy
Fakhar Zaman has played some memorable knocks for Pakistan in the ODI format of the game. His average of 46.7 and strike rate of 95.2 in the format speak volumes about his performance in the format. Zaman is particularly etched in the memories of Indian cricket fans because of his excellent knock of 114 runs off 106 balls in the 2017 Champions trophy final. The innings was a prime reason behind India’s defeat in the encounter and thus a failure to lift the trophy.
But he has grabbed attention recently for the sly dig he has taken on Pakistan’s economy. In a recent conversation with the media during the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) conditioning camp, Zaman stated that he hopes that the dollar doesn’t break his 210-runs record. His fear is justified given the dollar rate in Pakistan has already touched the 200 mark. The economy of the country is going through its worst phase. At present one dollar equals PKR 200.45.
“I want the dollar not to break my 210 runs record,”- Fakhar responded to a reporter’s question. He was referring to his swashbuckling knock of 210 runs off 156 deliveries against Zimbabwe in 2018. Pakistan won the match against Zimbabwe by a humongous margin of 244 runs in the 4th ODI of the series.
He was further enquired about the upcoming West Indies tour to which he shared his goals. He also spoke about PCB chairman Ramiz Raja’s latest initiative regarding the increase in the monthly stipends of ex-cricketers.
“It is a good thing that Ramiz ensured an increase in the monthly stipends. He was very supportive in the meeting. Increase in the salaries will benefit our cricket,”- said Fakhar.
