‘Fatman hit that out by the gas station’ – Fans react as Rahkeem Cornwall scores brilliant century for BR against SNP in CPL 2023

Barbados Royals (BR) and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SNP) recently encountered each other in the 18th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on 4 September 2023, Monday at the Kensington Oval, Barbados. SNP won the toss and chose to bat first, and the team collectively put a high target on the board.

Sherfane Rutherford and Will Smeed led SNP to a high score as they scored 65 and 63 runs off 27 and 36 deliveries with a strike rate of 240.74 and 175, respectively. Sherfane Rutherford smashed 5 fours and 5 huge sixes that left the spectators thrilled. The top-order batsman Will Smeed scored 5 fours and 4 sixes to lead SNP to a score of 220-4.

Barbados Royals successfully chased the target of 221 runs at the end of 18.1 overs. The team’s captain Rovman Powell and Rahkeem Cornwall became the highest scorers for the team by scoring 49 and 102 runs off 26 and 48 deliveries respectively. Cornwall was highly appreciated for his mind blowing century.

I dedicate this knock to him – Rahkeem Cornwall

BR sealed an easy victory against SNP  by 8 wickets. With 7 points Barbados Royals moved in the 4th spot of the Points Table.

“Today is my Son’s birthday, I dedicate this knock to him. My two sons always back me. Pitch was really good and I backed myself. My first hundred. I back myself to get my team to a good start. They (crowd) keep me going, so I want to give them something to cheer about. I haven’t gone past the powerplay, once I go past that I could go big. Thanks to my family for supporting me”, said Cornwall.

“It was an excellent feeling. If we didn’t get off to a good start it would have been a tough chase. They made it look like the target was 10-15 runs short. I expected this sort of an innings (from Cornwall), but the longevity of it wasn’t expected. I think the guys didn’t stick to plans with the ball. When we set an off side field, runs were scored on the legside. When we set an on-side field, runs went on the off-side. That’s something we need to look at. Always room for options. As a captain you have to work with your instinct. One of the best days of his (Cornwall) career. I’m trying my best to carry the team,” said Rovman Powell, Captain of Barbados Royals
